The Cold and Flu Busting Coconut and Orange Smoothie

….one of my bloggin buddies, Katherine Natalia (I call her the "Queen of Smoothies"), has a great blog for all kinds of smoothies and other wellness topics called GreenThickies. Amazing variety of healthy smoothies!!!!

She is a raw foodie (I think), I'm more of a hybrid (lots of raw, some quality proteins, and some cooked), but we can all get along I think. Anyhoo, she has a great smoothie recipe called the "The Cold And Flu Busting Coconut and Orange Smoothie" . Here is the recipe.

The Cold And Flu Busting Coconut and Orange Smoothie

FRUIT SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS

1 Cup Orange Juice
1 and a half Cups Coconut Milk (or one can)
6 Clementines (3 cups)
2 teaspoons of Ginger (raw root ginger, or dried)
Juice of 2 Lemons

OPTIONAL

2 Tablespoons Chia Seeds
4 Tablespoons of Raw Manuka Honey (or any healthy sweetener to taste)
20 drops of Echinacea
4 Tablespoons of melted Coconut Oil (that's from the original recipe, I use much less in my smoothies like 1 teaspoon per serving)

TO MAKE INTO A GREEN SMOOTHIE Add:
1 Cup Spinach, tightly packed or 2 cups loosely packed. (Or any other mild greens)

TO MAKE INTO A FRUIT THICKIE Add:
1 Cup Oats Or one cup of Quinoa

TO MAKE INTO A GREEN THICKIE Add:
1 Cup Spinach, tightly packed or 2 cups loosely packed. (Or any other mild greens) 1 Cup Oats Or one cup of Quinoa

Instructions

Blend the ingredients in the order listed. If you are making a green smoothie blend the greens and liquid first and then blend the rest of the ingredients. This creates more space in your blender. Add more water if required to thin it out. Substitute any of the ingredients for whatever you already have. If your smoothie is too warm, you can cool it down in the fridge or freeze some of your ingredients before blending. It is better to add frozen ingredients at the end to cool the smoothie down.

Thank you so much for posting my recipe.  I used to be a raw foodie but at the moment I try and get as much raw food as I can but also eat cooked food.  I do try and eat as much as I can unprocessed though.  It seems to work for me!

As a matter of fact, my next Top 10 list is “My Top 10 foods more nutritious cooked as opposed to raw”, just to nudge people form getting too locked into an eating style just for the sake of the label, such as “Vegan”, or “Raw Foodie” or “Paleo”. I come from the “Do whatever you gotta do to stay healthy” mindset, and sometimes cooking works better if you are trying to get certain nutrients out of certain foods

Great smoothie recipe! I'm a huge fan of smoothies and usually use raw cow milk and juice which is perfect for my body. Coconut milk is incredible though, so I'll definitely give that a try! Thanks for sharing. Found you on foodrenegade.com 🙂
