Normally, it seems, every year, I’m led instinctively to add another superfood to my regiment.
However, nothing had “called my name” this year, that is, until I ran across the Amla Berry……
As I keep saying, superfoods are the best way to fight disease, especially from a preventative perspective….
…as superfoods allow the body’s own immune system to fight potential diseases that could otherwise flare up.
Amla, the quick, Nutrition Science, Bla-Bla-Bla……
As taken from organicfacts.net, Indian gooseberry or Amla (Emblica officinalis or Phyllanthus emblica) is an extremely sour, nutritious fruit of a tree which grows in India, the Middle East, and a few other Southeast Asian countries.
Due to its powerful antioxidant properties, it is often used as in Ayurvedic medicines to boost skin and hair health, and also overall immunity of the body. This fruit ripens in the autumn in wet forests and hilly areas of the Indian subcontinent and the tree is considered sacred in India.
Amla, High in Phytochemicals
Gooseberries are high in phytochemicals, plant compounds with antioxidant properties that help fight off harmful free radicals in the body. Free radicals cause oxidative damage to cells and even contribute to the development of chronic disease.
The Indian gooseberry is high in phytochemicals like furosin, gallic acid, corilagin and quercetin, which are largely responsible for the health-promoting properties of gooseberries. [source]
Amla, both Beauty and Brains…..
Amla is obviously a nutrient dense “Brain Food”, but also has a reputation in helping with youthful looking skin and hair.
These beauty benefits are supposedly obtained from both consumption of the fruit in whatever form, as well as applying Amla Oil to the skin and hair.
Amla for Hair…..
Amla oil is renown for thickening hair, and various formulas with Amla powder have many hair benefits, including thicker/longer hair, and reversing grey and white hair [read more on Amla for Hair].
Amla is packed with nutrients….
Though I’m a “overly detailed” nutritionist at the core (though not licensed or certified in anything), I won’t list the boring list of nutrients in Amla….
….but I have researched enough superfoods to see this one has a heavy duty nutrient profile, well worth taking a look at, to see if I can get it into my daily regiment.
There is plenty of Amla powder available on Amazon, making it a easy addition to daily smoothies.
…not that anyone cares, but this actually happened to me once when I forgot to put the lid on my blender.
They call me Mr. Smooth[ie]
As I have said a gazillion times, to take advantage of these amazing superfoods now popping up un the USA ……
……YOU GOTTA GET INTO DAILY SMOOTHIES!!!!
This superfood should perfect for my milkshake tasting daily smoothies, especially in winter months to get that extra vitamin C boost to fight off those colds.
Remember, “Doubt is their Greatest Weapon”…..
…..as one author recently titled his book on how the Pharmaceutical Industry, Modern Medicine, and the Processed Food Industry will do ANYTHING in their power to convince us that these miracles of nature are a hoax or a scam.
Big Business is actually paying people to spread confusion on the web as these new Superfoods try to take root in the lucrative USA market to compete with their manufactured and processed foods and laboratory made medicines.
They are even coming after me and my blog now…..sigh
