The info in this post is taken from gaia-health.com (that blog is no longer active). I love the way Gaia-Health ruthlessly "Rages against the Machine".
I try to take a smoother approach, cool photography and all that, but both are necessary to get the word out on health and wellness. Besides, the Gaia scientific hypothesis proposes that all the entities of the earth work together and all are necessary.
Anyhoo, I am a Computer IT professional, and not qualified to give medical advice, but well qualified to give a sound, well researched opinion on many health and wellness subjects, and just wanted to make the point that I am totally opposed to the whole flu shot thingie-gingie.
I suppose I have a good memory, but I remember more than a few people over the years that have told me that after their flu shot, they felt "out of sorts" for several weeks or months, with one woman saying she felt "mildly sick" for two years.
We all have to make our own call on issues such as this, but I do think we should make the call with some intelligent thought behind it. Just as if any of us were called to jury duty, we as competent adults would be expected to make sound decisions on very complex and important issues.
Here are snippets of the text Gaia-Health's article. My personal mantra is that no blog article in and of itself should be considered truth, but merely a starting point to investigate the subject matters that affect our own lives.
A remarkable study published in the Cochrane Library found no evidence of benefit for influenza vaccinations. It’s also damns the quality of flu vaccine studies by saying that the vast majority of trials were inadequate. The authors stated that the only ones showing benefit were industry-funded
Vaccines administered parenterally, that is, outside the digestive tract—which generally means by injection—reduced influenza-like symptoms by only 12%.
They found no evidence that vaccination prevents viral transmission in healthy adults! (There goes the whole herd immunity argument!) This is particularly significant because, as they noted, inactivated vaccines are known to perform best in healthy adults.
They also found no evidence that flu vaccines prevent complications, either.
They attempted to ascertain the degree of complications, and though they did report on some, most of the studies simply did not address the issue or did so inadequately.
Gaia-Health writes a lot about vaccinations from evidence that kids vaccinations cause autism, to how swine flu vaccinations cause miscarriages, very good reads for those who want to get into this subject matter.
A good article on flu shots and reasons she is opposed to them here
