My longtime friend and co- 'Food Revolutionary' Harry Bentley wrote an article for me, and I though it was a great article to share. A very important lesson as it pertains to getting in tune with your body, listening to body, as it relates to your nutrition. I totally agree with him in that, your body and your food will start to speak to you………………………
The following is Harry's article…..In our society we've been taught to carefully observe almost anything that is of importance to us for the most part. What most people have not learned to do is to observe how they feel and how their body reacts to the foods they eat.
For example, after I drink my protein vegetable smoothie I notice an immediate positive effect on my body.
Increased energy and a sense of nutritional fulfillment by way of hunger satisfaction are just a few of the immediate things I feel. Longer term benefits also are apparent in terms of keeping my weight down and reduced health problems in general. On the other hand, when I eat a meal composed of highly processed foods that have a lot of sugar, salt and processed oils I notice an immediate loss of energy. The mouth loves the taste but the body's reaction is very different. In addition, due to the lack of nutrition I am usually hungry very soon after eating something like this. What does this tell you about the proper selection of food for your body? Over time the effects can be even more dramatic. The lesson here is to pay close attention to what your body is telling you after eating a meal.
Over time you can learn what foods are having a positive short and long term effect on your health just by learning the signals your body sends you.
Just for the record, here's my "basic" smoothie recipe:
The Bentley Super Smoothie #1:
750ml of a liquid, such as tea or a light organic juice.
1/4 cup of organic blueberries or blackberries
1/4 cup of organic cherries
1/2 cup of organic goji berries
Organic hemp and/or vegetable protein, about 4 tablespoons
teaspoon of organic maca
teaspoon of organic red maca
teaspoon of organic coconut oil
teaspoon of organic raw honey
1/2 teaspoon of organic cocoa
1cup of Crushed Ice
1 cup of organic raw vegetables (broccoli, kale etc)
This can change over time, depending on how I feel. See what works
for you. ~written by Harry Bentley, an ongoing contributor-at-large to The Gaia Health Blog~
