The Heavyweight Bout: Mother Nature vs. The Drug Industry

[below] My visual interpretation of Mother Nature. Mysterious and intimidating, but very open and honest once you get to know her. 🙂

Is it just me or does the anyone else find those drug commercials on TV weird? They are beautifully crafted, peaceful scenes of bike riding in the autumn forest, couples walking on the beach, very relaxing.

But then, at the end of the commercial, they roll off this terrifying list of side effects, i.e., the one I saw yesterday that said side effects could include gastrointestinal hemorrhages, stomach bleeding, cardiovascular problems, kidney and liver damage, ulcers, indigestion, diarrhea, abdominal pain, allergic reactions.

Kinda takes away from that cool scene of the older guy and his wife and dog walking on the beach dodging the incoming waves. When I look at these commercials, my mind is always saying to me, "Something just doesn't feel right"…..

I keep thinking that we have strayed away from the instinctive nature of ourselves, and have become "hard-wired" to how we are supposed to think about our wellness. In this modern day and age, everything seems to be about instantly flashing a text message, an e-mail, a Facebook message, or a TV commercial to express what needs to be expressed.

Or shall I say, to "quick slap" into someone's mind whatever we want to get them to think, with as little interactivity as possible. Methinks the end result is that we now think this divine human body is an imperfect machine, designed to break down for any random reason, and the solution is not to look into ourselves for the true cause of our illness and ailments, but simply to take the next commercially marketed pill or drug, and hope things get better.

The list of side effects with these drugs must convince an individual that this cannot be the ultimate god given divine solution to our wellness issues. Personally I think most people don't think about it at all, just get their prescription fill, pop the pills, and whatever happens happens.

My belief is that nature provides a cure for many if not all of our ailments, and that untapped resource can be tapped into through food, and also, through the power of herbs. I think the science of herbs is so unknown by the masses, it is probably impossible to just jump into taking herbs.

Nonetheless, I think herbal science is well worth considering when addressing issues such as joint pain, high cholesterol, severe colds, insomnia, and every thing else that demands to be addressed.

I take several herbs, but I have found our that they are nothing to "screw" around with. You have to take your time, perhaps confer with a Naturopath, or start with an herb that you feel comfortable with such as turmeric, and see what wonders Mother Nature can work for you. All that perhaps may actually be step two. Step one would perhaps be to determine which side of the heavyweight bout between Mother Nature and The Big Drug companies you are on.

Also, try to ask your inner consciousness how you should be approaching you own health and wellness, which is the only real thing you posses in this life. I firmly believe when you make a decision to improve your life, when that thought comes into the mind, there may be a short term void, because you may not know where to start.

My experience has been that the divine intelligence of the universe moves into motion and will assist you in implementing your decision. Give it a try, you might be surprised how well it works. When a mongoose gets into a fight with a poisonous snake and the snake bites him, the mongoose runs off into the bushes and eats a plant that will neutralize the poison.

The mongoose instinctively knows that Mother Nature has provided a solution. The mongoose seems to be more in tune with his instincts than we are; for he has already chosen his side. ~dw~

Finally alternative medicine is becoming recognized.  I have used a chiropractor (late Norman Faber) for over 20 years, and consulted with a naturopath. Alvenia Fulton's Fultonia and Alternative Health gave retinal analysis, advisied fasting and flushes.
Richard Sarnat, MD is an opthamologist who is an advocate for alternative medicine wrote a book titled "Physician, Heal Thyself"  Dr. Sarnat mentions "the alternative movement in this country is spreading from grass-roots populations to the mainstream and on up to the most senior levels of orthodox medicine".
Dr. Sarnat began his transformation while seeking optimum health.  He utilizes naturopathic physician Peter D'Adamo's theory to eat right according to your blood type.  Although the Blood Type Diet has many critics, Dr. Sarnat mentioned it because it worked for him.

Naturopathic Medicine and science is drawing me in. As with anything, I do my homework, and real answers come to me through basic and average means, like people books, chance encounters etc. I have the gift of not be sidetracked by people who speak against a method or procedure. I calmly look at both sides, and always properly informed myself of the proper approach to my own health and wellness. I know for sure Pfizer and Merek is not the route for me. Putting a drug in my mouth that has a side effect of “death” was the final straw for me with the mainstream pharmaceutical industry

I love that you brought it back to the divine intelligence.  I really think that is where it is for me.  We have really gotten so far away from being in tune with nature.  I watched an online documentary about farming called Back to Eden.  It is all about looking to how nature makes things grow without intervention.  It was so eye opening . . and basic.  THe farmer in the video talks about the exact thing you are referring to here.  We just need to start listening and getting tuned it!    Great piece!

Thanks for the comments. Yeah those TV commercial really scare me. The good news for me is that it is obvious that there is something wrong with our medical industry, if the height of what we can produce at this advanced state of modern science are these drugs with side effects.

I believe that avoiding highly processed foods could be the first step to help lose weight. They will taste fine, but ready-made foods possess very little vitamins and minerals, making you feed on more in order to have enough vitality to get over the day. If you’re constantly ingesting these foods, switching to cereals and other complex carbohydrates will help you to have more strength while eating less. Interesting blog post.
